Captivating Autumn Paintings - Artists Inspired By Autumn
With October comes the warm colours and crisp temperatures of autumn. While, in recent years, the celebration of autumn seems to be dominated by spiced coffees and halloween, the art world has been celebrating autumn for centuries with many of the greats - including Monet and Van Gogh - creating stunning autumn paintings that we love.
Closer to home, the chill outside often encourages us to create cosy spaces inside with autumn colours for interior design inspiration. We love the rich browns, yellows, golds, reds and oranges which create warmth within our spaces. While you might create this autumnal colour scheme with decoration or furnishings, there are plenty of artworks in our gallery to help you get cosy.
We want to take this opportunity to celebrate the season by focusing on some of the artists on the walls of our gallery inspired by autumn.
Autumn Landscapes
We can’t talk about autumn without mentioning the vibrant colours we enjoy on the leaves of autumn trees. While some artists bring us autumn landscapes that are wide and spacious, bringing us dramatic skies and jewelled foliage, others choose close, cosy moments to enjoy the detail of a place.
Dan Crisp has given us many works which embrace the yellows and golds of autumn, however the stunning Copper Leaves takes us deep into the season with its copper leaves and majestic stags in the distance.
The artist Maya brings us a different perspective, presenting us with trees stretching up to the clouded sky, leaves falling and winds changing.
Animals
Lovers of the English countryside - and particularly the wildlife within it - can also find an abundance of art reflecting their interests at this time of year. Again, we see the autumn colours reflected in the oranges of the fox coat, deep browns of hare or deer and exquisite patterns of birds.
Jackie Morris, renowned illustrator of The Lost Words, has released some beautiful pieces depicting animals and flowers of the season, embellished with gold leaf to bring that true autumn warmth and glow. One of our favourites is Conker, showing us the stunning seeds of the season.
Debbie Boon is another artist who seems able to bring her animal subjects to life. Inspired by her local Norfolk countryside, her work features foxes, horses, rabbits and owls. The curious fox in The Strategist is intriguing, making you consider his situation - wondering what he has spotted.
Cities
While autumnal colours might bring to mind landscapes and foliage, the changing light of the season can also be seen in our cities. While that might be seen in greying clouds and rain slicked streets, the softer light and shadows bring their own drama to streets and the people within them.
Jo Quigley has a great talent for bringing cityscapes to life with shadows, light and a sense of a moment in time. Her piece Late Autumn Stroll is a great example, with the subdued autumn light creating long shadows and interesting stories.
The pale skies over New York highlight the colour and life of the city in Mark Curryer's Autumn NYC, where the colours and texture bring the city to life.
As the season brings chills, we hope you’ll enjoy the warmth of these pieces and are inspired to see the glow of autumn in your own home.
