Indulge Your Senses, it's Bluebell Season at The Rose Gallery
Have you ever noticed how the first half of the year seems to be marked by the appearance of flowers?
In January, we look out for snowdrops, followed by crocuses in February. March feels more abundant as we welcome daffodils, tulips, and more; while April is all about the blossoming trees. Now, in May we’re seeing many people’s favourite wildflower - the bluebell.
Known for their deep blue-purple colouring and sweet fragrance, bluebells herald the start of summer. The appearance of these delicate blooms across swathes of British woodland, encourages many of us to get out into the sunshine to explore our local displays.
Northamptonshire’s Bluebells
We’re fortunate in Northamptonshire to have a number of stunning bluebell displays to enjoy, even in hidden corners such as the display found between housing estates and a supermarket in Grangewood Park.
Whether you’re looking for a quiet spot to wander, a day out with the family or the perfect spot for your photographs, we’ve found these magical bluebell walks in the area.
If you’re looking to take the dog for a walk in the woods, you’ve got a number to choose from. Everdon Stubbs, just south of Daventry, comes alive at this time of year; as does Hazelborough Wood near Silverstone. Badby Woods owned by Fawsley Hall, with an impressive gatehouse as an entrance, and Short Wood, part of the Rockingham Forest near Glapthorn, also provide wonderful woodland walks.
If you’re looking for a cafe and more to extend your stay, Lamport Hall and Gardens can help and holds events throughout the year. You might also like to visit Coton Manor Garden, near Guisborough, featured in the 2022 Channel 5 series on Great British Gardens.
Bluebells at Home
Many of our contemporary artists have been inspired by these stunning flora.
Paul Evans is an exceptional landscape artist who has beautifully captured these ethereal woodland glades, while Sam Toft celebrates the joy of Spring with her piece Barefoot in the Bluebells.
As Spring becomes Summer, we hope you’ll enjoy the beauty of nature in bluebells.
